Rutene Irwin talks about 'Ngā Ariki' and the many hapu of the waka Horouta. Kiwa, from which the name Turanganui-a-Kiwa is derived (Gisborne). Kiwa and Pawa lived there. Kiwa's daughter married Pawa's son Ruapani, as the chief down to Mahaki / Rongowhakaata, Nga Tai Manuhiri.
